At 6.00pm on Tuesday 24 January 2017 ACTRRA will be commencing the 2017 preseason training with the annual Will Boyle Run.
The start will be at the National Flags (behind Questacon) involving one lap of the Bridge-2-Bridge around Lake Burley Griffin. All members and supporters of ACTRRA are encouraged to attend and participate, with the focus on "participation" so feel free to run, walk, waddle or skip! ACTRRA's preseason run is in honour of William Boyle (26 Oct 1989 – 20 Oct 2011), an outstanding young referee who tragically lost his life in 2011. Will was an extremely promising referee who, as a 21 year old, refereed the Premier Division, including the Reserve Grade Grand Final in September 2011. Will started refereeing whilst he was a student at the Canberra Grammar School, and showed early potential in being awarded a School Student Scholarship in both 2006, 2007 together with regularly being appointed to referee 1st XV matches whilst in Year 12. 2007 also saw Will win the “Bruce Portway Whistle” for achieving the highest marks in the Level II Referee course and field test. In 2009 he was selected to represent the ACTRRA on exchange to Waikato, and subsequently completed a successful year by winning the “B.A.R Trophy” for the ACT’s most improved Referee. Missed by all!
